Bio
Marne Lucas aka CuntemporaryArtist is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York, USA, using photography, video and sculpture in her investigations at the intersection of art, feminism and health, working in conceptual overlaps: life is energy, the environment, beauty, the body, identity, intimacy and mortality.
Lucas uses heat-sensitive military imaging technology in experimental films to reference surveillance culture and the fragility of human existence. Her short film Haute Flash (2017) is part of ‘Transitional States: Hormones at the Crossroads of Art and Science’ a video exhibition series at Space Plus, Lincoln, U.K, Peltz Gallery, London, Centre de Cultura Contemporà nia de Barcelona, and Space Plus, Bologna. Collaborations with Jacob Pander are Incident Energy (2013) and The Operation (1995), a cult erotic classic garnering many awards including Best Experimental Film, New York Underground Film Festival and screened at the ICA London in the American Underground Film program curated by Jack Sargeant.
The Operation
In a cold tile operating room, a surgeon clad in a protective Ty-Vek suit, goggles and tight rubber gloves demonstrates her skills before a group of observers. They scrutinize the eerie coupling between the surgeon and patient, whose bodies merge like molten lava. Explicit radioactive sex draws the viewer into an erotic experience that probes beneath the boundary of skin.
